An older version of Microsoft Word had a file format called .doc.  Then their new version is formatted as .docx file format.  This new format has many benefits.  In fact, sharing a small file made it easier to share by any means.  This is much easier than the .doc format.  You can easily convert the old .doc file to the new .docx format in some simple way.

 What to do?

Word App Compatibility Mode: Right-click any file that has an older version of .doc format, click the mouse pointer on Open With and open it with the Word app.  Once the old file is opened with the Word app, click on the File menu in Word.  Click on the Info menu in the left-hand menu.  Then click on the compatibility mode of the convert icon.  With this mode you can easily adapt the old file format to the new version.  Immediately a popup will confirm the option, pressing here will change to the new version, as well as decrease the file size.

 Save As Advantage

If you want to change the format of the file more easily, open the old format with the Word app.  Go to the File menu and select Save option.  Then select the Word Document (.docx) file format from the popup and press the Save button.

 From Word Online

If you have the Office App installed, you can do this by using the Online Office Program.  For this, go to office.live.com and log in with your Microsoft account.  Then open your old version file using the upload and open options.  When the file is finished uploading, go to Info from the File menu, go to the previous versions and click on Download.  Only then will the new version file be downloaded to your computer.
